if tomorrow i should lie
stretched and numb in casket
and you should come
and bend over me
and say in a hushed voice
‘here’s the fifty quid i owe ya’
i’d sit up right away and say
‘about bloody time’
but if you whispered
past the candles
‘here’s some paper and a pen’
i’d raise my head a quarter
and open one eye half
to glare at you
before slipping back
cold all over again
Recompense, revenge or justice being served. I have not decided which of those choices fit the emotion and circumstance. Regardless of my take this is fine writing and great humor.
Fabulous!
Perfect!

You have a gift. I swung from “that was hysterical” to “isn’t that the truth”, while reading this poem. Well done.
